The Mahindra XUV300 is a subcompact crossover SUV developed by Mahindra & Mahindra, introduced to the Indian market in February 2019. Designed to compete in the compact SUV segment, it was positioned against popular rivals such as the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Tata Nexon, and Ford EcoSport. The XUV300 is based on the SsangYong Tivoli's X100 platform and was codenamed S201 during its development. Despite its global roots, the vehicle was extensively re-engineered to meet Indian road conditions and market expectations. Notably, the SUV underwent wind tunnel testing at the renowned Pininfarina facility in Italy, a reflection of Mahindra’s focus on aerodynamics and performance.
In terms of design, the XUV300 draws inspiration from its larger sibling, the XUV500, featuring similar projector headlamps, LED DRLs, and a bold grille. Though derived from the Tivoli, Mahindra shortened the overall length to fall under the sub-four-meter category for tax benefits, while increasing its width and height to give it a robust stance. The XUV300 boasts a five-door SUV layout and is available in both petrol and diesel engine options. These include a 1.5L CRDe diesel engine, a 1.2L mStallion turbocharged petrol engine, and the more recent 1.2L TGDi petrol variant. Transmission choices include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automated manual gearbox.
Manufactured in Nashik, Maharashtra, the XUV300 remained in production until 2024, after which it received a facelift and was rebranded as the Mahindra XUV 3XO. An electric version of the vehicle, named the XUV400, also branched out from this platform. With its modern styling, feature-rich package, and focus on safety and driving dynamics, the XUV300 established itself as a strong contender in India’s competitive compact SUV market.
