REVA
The Reva Electric Car Company (RECC) was established in 1994 in Bangalore, India, as a joint venture between the Maini Group India and AEV LLC, California, USA. Founded by Chetan Maini, its vision was to manufacture environment-friendly and cost-effective electric vehicles for city mobility.
RECC launched its flagship product, the REVA electric car, in June 2001. This vehicle was India's first zero-polluting electric car for city use and gained global acceptance. The company held 10 patents and developed the car with 95% indigenous components. The REVA was available in 26 countries, with over 4,000 units sold worldwide by March 2011, and was also test-marketed in countries like Japan, the US, and Australia.
In May 2010, the Indian conglomerate Mahindra & Mahindra acquired a controlling stake in RECC. Following the acquisition, the company was renamed Mahindra Reva Electric Vehicles Private Limited and later to Mahindra Electric Mobility Limited (now Mahindra Last Mile Mobility Limited). Under Mahindra, the company continued to innovate, launching the Mahindra e2o electric car in 2013, which succeeded the REVA G-Wiz and was developed using REVA's technology.
RECC was recognized for its pioneering efforts in the electric vehicle space, even developing a prototype for a fuel cell-powered car.
