The Tata Zest, launched in 2014, represented a significant step forward in Tata's design and technology. This compact sedan marked a departure from the brand's previous utilitarian aesthetic, incorporating a more modern and sophisticated design language. It boasted features previously unseen in its price bracket, such as a touchscreen infotainment system and an AMT (Automated Manual Transmission) gearbox. The Zest aimed to attract younger, more discerning buyers with its improved interior quality, advanced technology, and relatively peppy engine options, including a diesel engine known for its fuel efficiency. While not a runaway success commercially, the Zest demonstrated a clear attempt by Tata to compete with more established players in terms of features and design.
